Boardwalk Loyalty
A Cactus Vibes short
I was walking toward the ocean.
Public access, wooden planks, lights guiding the way.
The water was there before I could see it.
I could hear it breathing.
Django wasn’t on a leash.
He didn’t need one.
He walked ahead, then stopped.
Turned back.
Looked at me to make sure I was still coming.
That’s how we move.
Not pulled. Not pushed.
Just checking in.
There was sand waiting at the end.
Something wide and honest and bigger than both of us.
But before the beach, before the waves,
there was this moment.
Light on wood.
Dark sky.
Loyalty walking a few steps ahead,
waiting without doubt.
